Inspiration
Everybody has ideas about what they want in a filter, or they wish to view how they will look in certain situations; for example my friends always wondered how they would look like, if they had dimples :) using Augmented Reality for this is just perfect! Also, 3D objects fascinate me a lot, so I have created my own effects and have worked with 3D objects!
What it does
I have created a bunch of effects, some of which have animated face distortions, while some others have animated cartoons and background and last but not the least, I have created animated 3D objects and face cutting effects which will surprise you!
How I built it
I built all the effects using Spark AR. Talking about the face distortion effects, I have used a tool named sculptGL to create the desired distortions in a face mesh and have animated them using loop animation feature in the patch editor. Next, the animated cartoon and background effects have been created using a tool for converting gif to sprite sheet, and then importing the JPG file in an animation sequence in Spark AR. For 3D models, I am extremely thankful to some websites, from where I could download the 3D models and could animate them. After animating on mixamo, the objects were imported to Spark AR where I linked the object to the animation and there we go! And lastly, the face cutting effect was created by importing a 3D object and then, using plane occluder and face tracker, to shape the desired effect.
Challenges I ran into
My first experience with AR and Spark AR was during this hackathon itself, and so, at first I found it difficult to figure out why the effect isn't working properly, or how to animate 3D objects.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
Since my first experience with AR was during this hackathon itself, it is really encouraging to have created some effects of my own! It was an amazing experience to work on something which we use so often in our life, and creating my own version of it!
What I learned
I learned to animate the face distortion and face tracking, to change the background, and in fact, animating it. I also learnt how to use gifs for animation. And, I learned to animate 3D objects and using the plane occluder for the face cutting effect.
What's next for AR World
I will try to add music and sounds to my effects, also, I wish to add multiple animations in a single project.
