Inspiration
Mr. Robot
What it does
Visualizes nearby Wi-Fi access points using ESP32 scanning nodes and identifies potentially suspicious networks for security monitoring.
How we built it
Three ESP32 nodes collect BSSID, SSID, RSSI, channel, and authentication data. The data is sent to a laptop backend, which processes it and estimates each access point's location before streaming the results to a Meta Quest Pro.
Challenges we ran into
The ESP32 nodes have no built-in positioning, so their locations had to be predetermined for RSSI-based multilateration to work accurately.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Building the full communication pipeline between the ESP32 nodes, backend, and Quest application.
What we learned
Unity VR development, ESP32 Wi-Fi scanning, and real-time device communication.
What's next for AR Wifi Threat Detector
We wanted to use the Hack the North badges as additional scanning nodes to increase coverage and potentially improve localization accuracy.
