Inspiration

The project was inspired by the increasing demand for safer and more efficient training methods in high-risk work environments such as warehouses and logistics centers. New employees often struggle to recognize hazards early, especially pedestrians, blind spots, unstable loads, and narrow aisles. Traditional training is slow, expensive, and sometimes risky. We wanted to explore how AR can simulate these dangers safely, directly inside the real workspace, and help trainees build the right habits before they ever operate a real forklift.

What it does

The AR Forklift Safety Coach uses the device’s camera to scan the warehouse and place virtual hazards directly into the real environment. Trainees choose a scenario, observe the situation, and practice the correct safety response as AR pedestrians, obstacles, or unstable loads appear around them. The system tracks their reactions, provides instant feedback, and gives a short coaching summary after each session. All data is anonymized.

How we built it

We built it using Unity and C#.

Challenges we ran into

The written Programm didnt work on Apple and we didnt have any android devices so we had to switch to a web based application.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of ourselves as a Team for the motivation and dedication we had going in this Project. For our first Hackathon we think we found a solution to the given challenge real fast, adapted to our circumstances and build a good Product.

What we learned

We learned that sometimes its looks harder on the Outside, as an example: We were scared to not fit into the Hackathon and that our Knowledge is not enough. But we managed good.

What's next for AR SafetyFork

A long-term goal is to support real-time AR assistance when trainees begin operating real forklifts under supervision.
