AR Mixtape

Inspiration

We wanted to create a gateway that empowers artists to share their music with fans and introduce fans to a new type of entertainment.

What it does

AR Mixtape allows you to view portals to worlds that enable the user to walk into and experience an artist's music in AR with their mobile phone. The idea is that eventually artists would release new songs over time which would open new portals in the app to new AR Mixtape environments.

How we built it

AR Mixtape was built with unity and uses ARcore to deliver a mobile AR experience.

Challenges we ran into

Downloading and playing volumetric video off of a server in a mobile app was a new thing that we had to figure out for this challenge which we executed successfully

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We successfully built an app that could download volumetric video off the 5g network in just over a day and think that's pretty amazing.

What we learned

The 5g network will enable all sorts of new applications through it's ability to allow users to downlaod massive files very quickly. Things like volumetric video traditionally can not be accessed easily over the networks we have now, and the future of mobile media will definitely be changed by access to these faster speeds.

What's next for AR Mixtape

The possibilities for an AR Mixtape are endless. We could eventually add multiplayer support to allow friends and family to experience these AR music experiences together. We could add music discovery options to help people experience new artists by connecting these AR worlds together. We could allow fans to walk into live performances.
