Inspiration
Our team members' family member is an event planner, and she has to visit venues while in the process of planning out events in order to make sure it fits their needs. However, due to Covid-19, we thought that it would make more sense for an event planner to only have to visit a space once for the sake of their safety. With our app, event planners can easily see what furniture would look like in the event space without having to make detailed sketches or take painful measurements.
What it does
The user can upload their own images of furniture or use the already provided selection of chairs, dancefloors, etc. we have a wide range of colors and styles for these items. This way, the user can see what the different colors and styles would look like in a particular location, prior to purchasing furniture.
How I built it
We attempted to create an app using Android Studio and EchoAR to simplify the process of accessing our 3D models.
Challenges I ran into
We initially had a separate project idea, but we felt that it was too complicated to implement in the timeframe we were given. This resulted in a significant loss of time while working on the AR Event Planner. While doing the AR Event Planner, we struggled with connecting our EchoAR API with our Android Studio app. We spent a lot of time trying to troubleshoot this.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
We used PowerShell, learnt how to navigate EchoAR, and explored Flutter. Throughout the hackathon, we were able to see many different kinds of platforms and learn the basics of how to use them. We had a teammate that left mysteriously halfway through the day and didn't return (who also happened to be our most experienced teammate), but we still attempted to create a project as a pair.
What I learned
We learned how to install and use EchoAR and Flutter. Additionally, we learnt how to access and make files in PowerShell/Terminal.
What's next for AR Event Planner
In the future, we hope to successfully connect our EchoAR library with our Android Studio project.
