Inspiration
We believe Architecture is a rich storyteller, reflecting a city's culture, ambitions, and history. Our project aims to showcase how AR experiences can inspire people to explore their surroundings and learn more about the city they're in. As well as to make those experiences more accessible and inclusive.
What it does
It shows how AR can be utilized as an accessibility tool for live city tours by providing voice-to-text subtitles, translations, and spatial awareness cues (like directional indicators or points of interest). With the use of 3D and Animation, it can also be utilized as an interactive form of visual learning.
How we built it
We build it using Adobe Aero, Blender, Adobe After Effects, Figma
Challenges we ran into
The most challenging aspects of this project were time and some limitations of Adobe Aero. The software only lets you create experiences for a small area and there was no way to build a whole map of experiences that we had hoped would be good for our city tour project. Adobe Aero also doesn't have support for Shape Key Animations. We learned about a challenge 2 weeks before the deadline and were waiting for access for about a week. With only one week for the project, it was challenging to execute all the ideas we had for this project.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud of all the work we've done in the little time we had and of the visual quality that was executed.
What we learned
We learned the importance of prioritizing tasks. We also learned a new tool and how to work in Adobe Aero.
What's next for AR Chicago
We hope to make it a real app someday.
