Inspiration Our inspiration for AR Capture the Flag came from the desire to blend classic outdoor gameplay with immersive technology. We wanted to create an engaging experience that encourages physical activity and teamwork in a digital age.
What it does AR Capture the Flag is an augmented reality game that allows players to place flags and compete in real-world spaces. Players can form teams, set boundaries, and utilize power-ups to enhance their gameplay experience.
How we built it We built the game using Unity as the core development platform, integrating the Immersal SDK for GPS functionality. Our team utilized C# scripting to create game mechanics, including flag placement, enemy tracking, and power-ups.
Challenges we ran into We faced challenges integrating C# scripts with AR components and ensuring the Quest headset was recognized by Unity. Additionally, making GPS functionality accurate proved difficult, and our ambitious project scope was a stretch for a team with no prior VR experience.
Accomplishments that we're proud of Despite the challenges, we successfully implemented basic GPS functionality and developed a few key game mechanics.
What we learned We learned the importance of setting realistic goals and scope, especially when working with new technologies. Collaboration and problem-solving were essential in overcoming obstacles and adapting to unexpected issues.
What's next for AR Capture the Flag Moving forward, we plan to refine the game mechanics, enhance GPS accuracy, and improve the overall user experience. Our goal is to launch a polished version that invites more players to experience the excitement of augmented reality capture the flag.
