Airdrums on Meta
We all play airdrums, but not all of us in public
The idea of this app is simple. You're wearing the Meta Augmented Reality (AR) glasses; you launch the app and suddenly a drum kit appears overlaying the real world. You toggle the high-hat, start whacking the drums and rocking out. You whack the drums harder and rock out louder. The world is your drum kit.
Airdrums currently has a kick drum, two snares, a cymbals loop and a high hat. More than sufficient for a rockstar drum solo.

While playing AR Airdrums is a simple concept the difficulty comes in tuning the optimal drummer interaction and drummer experience or DI/DX. Making the virtual drums sound depend on how the drummer hits them took a lot of effort to get right. Also, how do we handle the fact that drummers can put their hands right through the virtual drums? There are a lot of little things to think about when the AR interface is skeuomorphic and drummers bring particular user expectations about how they will interact with them. Keeping these interactions as natural as the technology allows is critical.
