💡 Inspiration
Modern agricultural research shows that most pesticides lose efficiency in alkaline water (pH > 7.0) and perform best in slightly acidic or neutral conditions.
However, farmers often lack accessible, science-based tools to manage spray water pH precisely.
AquaTune was created to solve this — a scientifically accurate, easy-to-use tool that empowers farmers to optimize spray tank water chemistry using safe, acidifying fertilizers.
Our goal: enhance pesticide performance, protect crops, and make precision agriculture accessible to everyone.
⚙️ What It Does
AquaTune calculates the exact fertilizer amount needed to bring spray water into the ideal pH range based on user inputs.
🧠 Scientific Engine
- 🧪 Advanced Chemistry Models — Henderson–Hasselbalch equations & carbonate equilibrium
- 🌱 Nitrification Modeling — Simulates biological acidification via ammonium oxidation
- ⚠️ Precipitation Risk Assessment — Predicts calcium phosphate & sulfate precipitation
- 🔍 Multi-Parameter Analysis — Considers water hardness, temperature, alkalinity, and fertilizer purity
The result: accurate, science-driven water conditioning recommendations in seconds.
🛠️ How We Built It
We built an ecosystem, not just an app:
- 🌐 Web Application — React + TypeScript + Tailwind CSS for fully responsive design
- 📱 Android App — Native Kotlin + Jetpack Compose with full offline capability
- ⚙️ Shared Core Engine — Identical scientific models across both platforms
Together, they bring lab-grade chemistry models directly to the field.
🧩 Challenges We Ran Into
- Implementing robust, real chemical equilibrium computations required deep study of agricultural chemistry and carbonate systems.
- Learning Kotlin and Android app development from scratch to achieve production-ready quality.
- Designing a responsive, bilingual interface for both scientists and farmers.
🏆 Accomplishments We’re Proud Of
- ✅ Built a fully functional cross-platform ecosystem (Web + Android) for precise water chemistry adjustment.
- 🔬 Developed a scientific-grade pH prediction engine using true equilibrium chemistry.
- 🌍 Delivered a multilingual interface (English, German, Spanish, Ukrainian) to make agricultural science globally accessible.
📚 What We Learned
- Advanced fertilizer and water chemistry interactions
- Kotlin, Gradle, and Jetpack Compose for Android
- Tailwind CSS and modern responsive web design
