Inspiration

The rise of phishing attacks and online fraud has become a significant concern for individuals and businesses alike. Witnessing the devastating impact these threats can have on unsuspecting users, I was inspired to create RedPhish, a groundbreaking solution that empowers users to protect themselves against phishing attempts and fraudulent activities.

What it does

RedPhish is a browser extension that combines cutting-edge technology with real-time data analysis to detect and prevent phishing attacks. By leveraging the powerful Pangea API, RedPhish provides users with instant verdicts on domains, IPs, file hashes, and URLs, enabling them to make informed decisions about the safety of online resources. The extension seamlessly integrates into Safari browsers on iOS and macOS devices and Chrome browsers, ensuring a secure browsing experience.

How I built it

To develop RedPhish, I utilized a combination of programming languages and frameworks, including Swift, JavaScript, and HTML/CSS. I integrated the Pangea API into the extension to enable real-time verdicts of domains, URLs, IPs, and file hashes. Through an iterative development process, I focused on creating a user-friendly interface and ensuring the smooth integration of Pangea.cloud APIs.

Challenges I ran into

Building RedPhish presented several challenges. One significant hurdle was seamlessly integrating the functionality of the Pangea API into the extension. Additionally, I faced design challenges in creating an intuitive and visually appealing interface that prioritizes user experience.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I am proud to have developed RedPhish, a browser extension that empowers users to take control of their online security. My accomplishment lies in creating a reliable and efficient tool that safeguards users from phishing attacks and fraudulent activities.

What I learned

During the development process, I gained valuable insights into the intricacies of phishing attacks and the importance of proactive online security measures. I deepened my understanding of cybersecurity practices.

What's next for RedPhish

  • More Stores
Our next step involves publishing the extension on popular and accessible platforms for extensions, including Firefox, Opera, and the Microsoft Stores. This will make the extension widely available to users across different platforms and enhance its reach and usability.

  • Promotion
I have plans to publish the extension on ProductHunt. This platform will provide an opportunity to showcase RedPhish to a wider audience of tech enthusiasts, early adopters, and potential users, helping generate more visibility and engagement.

  • Easier Entry
I am working towards streamlining the user experience by removing the need for a personal token. Users will be able to download the extension, make payments using services like Apple Pay, and start using it right away. This will simplify the entrance threshold for new participants.

  • Check Inbox for All
I will include popular email providers like AOL, Outlook, Yahoo, and ProtonMail in the "Email Check" option, expanding its coverage beyond just Gmail. This will ensure a more comprehensive analysis of incoming emails and provide enhanced protection against phishing attempts.

  • Better UI/UX and Performance
I will continuously enhance and optimize the extension's functionality, design, and usability. I am committed to providing ongoing support to ensure an excellent user experience. By leveraging user feedback and incorporating industry best practices, I will refine RedPhish to be more intuitive, visually appealing, and performant.
