Inspiration
Cybersecurity attacks are increasing daily, yet access to real-time, digestible insights is still limited for many organizations and individuals. We wanted to create a simple but powerful dashboard that makes threat intelligence accessible, visual, and actionable—helping Africa stay future-proof against evolving cyber risks.
What it does
ShieldBoard collects, processes, and visualizes cybersecurity threat data (e.g., attack types, frequency, sources). It provides an easy-to-understand dashboard showing how attacks occur and offering quick prevention tips.
How we built it
We used Python for backend processing and API integration, Flask to serve data, and Chart.js for real-time visualizations. The project runs on a lightweight web app hosted locally, making it simple to deploy. Our cybersecurity expert defined the key attack categories and mapped common defense strategies.
Challenges we ran into
Integrating threat data feeds into a short timeframe. Designing an interface that balances simplicity and technical depth. Time constraints of the hackathon forced us to focus on MVP features only. Accomplishments that we're proud of Built a working prototype in under 48 hours. Made cybersecurity intelligence accessible through clean visuals. Successfully collaborated across cybersecurity and Python development backgrounds.
What we learned
We learned how to simplify complex cybersecurity data into meaningful insights for users, how to work under extreme time pressure, and how diverse expertise can accelerate project delivery.
What's next for ShieldBoard
We plan to: Integrate live threat intelligence APIs for real-time updates. Add AI-driven threat prediction models. Expand ShieldBoard into a collaborative tool for schools, SMEs, and public institutions in Africa.
