AquaFind AI: The Story Behind Our Project
- What Inspired Us
The inspiration for AquaFind AI came from my own farm. We tried drilling at two different locations, but unfortunately, we could not find water. My friend, who is also my project partner, and his family had faced similar difficulties while trying to identify suitable locations for groundwater. These experiences made us realize how uncertain and expensive groundwater exploration can be for farmers.
We started asking ourselves a simple question: Why can't we find a better, more affordable way to identify potential groundwater locations before drilling?
That question became the foundation of AquaFind AI. We wanted to explore how technology could help farmers make more informed decisions, reduce financial losses from unsuccessful borewells, and use groundwater resources more responsibly.
- What We Learned
Through this project, we learned that groundwater detection is not as simple as measuring the soil from the surface. It requires understanding underground geological formations and interpreting measurements collected from the ground. We explored the potential of geophysical techniques, IoT-based data collection, and AI-assisted analysis to estimate groundwater potential.
We also learned that technology must be practical and affordable to make a meaningful difference, especially for farmers with limited resources. Our goal is to combine these technologies into a simple system that can make groundwater prospecting more accessible.
- How We Plan to Build the Project
We plan to develop a low-cost prototype using a microcontroller, affordable electronic components, and geophysical measurement principles such as electrical resistivity. The collected data will be displayed on an IoT dashboard, where software can help interpret measurements and estimate groundwater potential. We will begin with controlled experiments and sample datasets before attempting field testing.
- Challenges We Faced
One of our biggest challenges was turning a real-life farming problem into a technically achievable project. Groundwater lies beneath multiple layers of soil and rock, and ordinary sensors cannot directly confirm its presence. We must identify suitable measurement techniques, keep the prototype affordable, interpret data carefully, and avoid misleading predictions.
Another challenge is making the system useful without expensive professional equipment. We aim to address this by developing the prototype in stages, validating our measurements, and improving the analysis as we collect more data.
- Our Vision
AquaFind AI began with a problem on my own farm, but our vision extends to farmers and communities facing similar groundwater challenges. We want to build a practical, affordable tool that helps people make better-informed decisions before investing in borewell drilling. For us, this project is not just about technology; it is about using engineering to solve a real problem that affects people's livelihoods.
