Inspiration

In regions worldwide, including many underdeveloped areas, millions grapple with the dire challenge of accessing clean water. Shockingly, over 2 billion people lack access to safe drinking water, leading to rampant waterborne diseases and approximately 2 million preventable deaths annually. Additionally, unsustainable water consumption exacerbates environmental degradation, with global water demand projected to exceed supply by 40% by 2030. Our solution offers a critical response to these pressing issues, providing a user-friendly platform to locate clean water sources and promote water-saving practices. By addressing immediate health risks and long-term sustainability concerns, we aim to make a tangible difference in combating water scarcity and safeguarding our most precious resource for future generations.

Our app addresses the pressing issue of clean water access and conservation, especially in underdeveloped countries where waterborne diseases pose a significant threat to public health. By offering a userfriendly platform to locate clean water sources and promote watersaving practices, we empower communities to protect this vital resource and create a healthier, more sustainable future.

  1. Increased Access to Clean Water: Aqua Saver provides a platform that maps clean water locations and empowers users to add new sources.
  2. Promotion of Sustainable Water Management Practices: Features like the Water Saving Tracker and Daily Activities for Water Conservation encourage users to adopt sustainable practices.

United Nations' Sustainable Development goal(s) AND target(s)

We have chosen to focus on the following targets under United Nations' Sustainable Development Goal 6: Clean Water and Sanitation: and Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being

  1. Target 6.1: Achieve universal and equitable access to safe and affordable drinking water for all.
  2. Target 6.5: Implement integrated water resources management at all levels, including through transboundary cooperation.
  3. Target 6.b: Support and strengthen the participation of local communities in improving water and sanitation management.
  4. Target 6.4: By 2030, substantially increase water-use efficiency across all sectors and ensure sustainable withdrawals and supply of freshwater to address water scarcity and substantially reduce the number of people suffering from water scarcity.

How we built it

  1. Firebase: Firestore: Firestore was chosen for its real-time database capabilities and scalability. Firebase Authentication: Firebase Authentication provides a secure and reliable solution for user authentication and authorization.

  2. Flutter: Framework: Flutter was selected for its cross-platform capabilities, allowing the development of a single codebase that runs seamlessly on both Android and iOS devices.

  3. Google Maps Platform: GMP provies APIs like the Geocoding API and Places API enables the app to convert addresses into geographic coordinates facilitating location-based services such as searching for water sources by address or displaying user location on the map.

  4. Adobe XD: Adobe xd is a vector based user experience design tool for web apps and mobile apps. this was very helpful when we building UI of our app.

5.Android stuido : we used developement platform android studio to build our entire app.

These products and platforms were chosen based on their reliability, scalability, and ease of integration with Flutter.


What's next for Aqua Saver

The future trajectory of our project is geared towards not only continuous improvement but also an enriched user experience:

  1. Enhanced User Experience: We'll Invest more in visually appealing design elements and branding that reflect the Aqua Saver's purpose and identity.
  2. Customization with Gemini Integration: Embracing the power of Gemini, we will integrate advanced features to enhance our solution's efficency. This includes tailored incorporation of diverse techniques for water purification, ensuring our solution resonates deeply within specific contexts and delivers tangible results.
  3. Collaborative Partnerships for Impact: Strengthening alliances with governmental bodies, NGOs, and businesses is pivotal in our quest for wider outreach. By forging collaborative partnerships, we aim to tap into new user networks, extend our reach, and magnify our impact on a global scale.
  4. Scalability and Evaluation Framework: Anticipating growth and heightened demand, we prioritize scalability without compromising quality. Concurrently, we emphasize the importance of robust evaluation mechanisms, leveraging user feedback and impact assessments to drive iterative improvements and refine our approach continuously.
