Inspiration
We all struggle to decide what courses to do over the T3 year, and new students often struggle to navigate the handbook and course outlines. So we wanted to make the whole process easier and filter out unnecessary information so it is easier and faster for everyone.
What it does
It takes all UNSW courses and their information. Then it takes user input as to what courses they have done. From this, it extrapolates what courses would be recommended to do next.
How we built it
We used python to scrape UNSW's websites for the course information, and Golang to build the server. We used HTML and CSS for the web front end.
Challenges we ran into
Time.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Scraping the data and creating a suggestion engine.
What we learned
We learnt web scraping technologies and web frameworks.
What's next for Aqua's helper
That we have to refine our scraping to make sure we have accurate data as well as improve our engine to take into account many more factors to make it widely usable
