Inspiration
I spent a lot of my life feeling like I had to figure things out myself. I came from a house made of metal scraps and tile and after coming to Australia, I always felt like I didn't get enough support in terms of learning how to deal with self-management. After the rigid routine of high school left as soon as I entered university, I was stuck and overwhelmed.
It was around this time professionals informed me of my Depression and ADHD. I wanted to live a life without being bound to medication and so I wanted to build that life with Aptivo. I watched videos of psychiatric lifestyle advices and non medicative treatments to build frameworks to get me started on the right track.
I needed to figure out a cost-efficient way to manage my life, and I had to do it quickly. I figured I could learn to vibe code and learn the rest at a future date.
I started by interviewing friends and building tools for them using Codex and ChatGPT. After receiving a lot of requests, I built Aptivo as a last-ditch effort to keep my head above water.
Although the core basic app kept me going for a month or so, Codex blew the lid off my shipping ability and brought it to life.
Now, I’m completing a placement at a private equity firm, balancing enterprise sales, and competing as a global top 0.8% chess player on Chess.com—all at the same time. At the end of the day, I wanted to help all the people with a similar situation to have access to tools to get them on the right footing.
What It Does
Aptivo helps manage my everyday life through:
Planners
- Auto-tagging Kanban to-do list with drag-and-drop functionality
- Stopwatches and timers
- Calendars
- Task filters using tags and mini to-do lists
- Long-term goal setting through skill trees
Trackers
- Study logs and diagnostics
- Wake-up and energy logs and diagnostics
- Leaderboards
- Assessment priority trackers
- Habit journals and frameworks
- Habit systems and daily simulations
And there is still more to come.
How We Built It
In between breaks and after work, I'd smash out some vibe coding sessions while meticulously planning the framework on my whiteboard.
I initially used ChatGPT to scope out what could be helpful for students within the education space. I then used those insights to frame the app visually in Lovable, partly because of its generous backend pricing for students.
For general development, we used Codex and ChatGPT to manually and agentically modify the codebase through a two-way-synced GitHub repository.
We hosted the app using Lovable to support Google account authentication and multi-account syncing.
Challenges We Ran Into
We encountered limitations caused by the cost and development inefficiencies within Lovable. To lift that ceiling, we began manually modifying code files within the code editor. This eventually evolved into making full changes through Codex and GitHub.
Whenever I ran out of Codex credits, I would either reset them or switch to GPT to manually modify files through GitHub.
Accomplishments That We’re Proud Of
We managed to implement several AI workflows and keep synchronisation running reliably despite the size of the app and the breadth of its capabilities.
I’m particularly proud of how useful Aptivo has become in helping me manage my day-to-day life, as well as its potential to expand beyond its current capabilities.
What We Learned
I learned a lot throughout the process. Here are a few of the most important lessons:
- I learned how to code more efficiently.
- I learned how to maintain product quality through application logs.
- I created a folder containing all core functionality, which acts as a checklist whenever changes are made.
- I learned about product design by watching Apple’s videos on the subject.
- I learned how difficult—and important—it is to say no to exciting ideas and focus on the pragmatic ones.
Most importantly, I learnt that regardless of the path you took, it is okay to be bold and build something you own - even when everything is telling you you're not ready.
What’s Next for Aptivo
As Aptivo gains traction, I plan to learn from relevant communities and explore which additional features could meaningfully improve the platform. There's so much more to learn and I can only thank Chatgpt and Codex for helping me along the way. In the mean time, I'll keep bootstrapping to keep this afloat.
With sufficient funding, more AI-powered capabilities could help bridge the gap between the need to learn and a genuine passion for learning.
