Inspiration

Our inspiration comes from personal experience, as we struggled to keep track of our job applications. The inspiration for Applicable stems from eager college students searching for job opportunities in the field of computer science.

What it does

Applicable is a chrome extension that automatically applies web-scraping to application submission pages to parse and store data into the Applicable webpage.

How we built it

We built our chrome extension using JavaScript, HTML, and CSS. Our planning process took place on Figma.

Challenges we ran into

We initially spent time building our website, however we soon learned that Applicable could be better integrated as an extension.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Building the front-end of the chrome extension as none of our team members had any prior experience.

What we learned

We learned how web-scraping can be applied to an application that automatically stores data from a website. We also learned how our chrome extension could be used to possibly generate revenue through data sharing.

What's next for Applicable

Next for Applicable, we want to complete the back-end portion of the extension and website using Python libraries like Scrapy or Beautiful soup to perform web-scraping. We hope to launch our extension on the Chrome store as well as share applicant application status to connect users with employers on our platform. Lastly, we want to create other templates for Applicable that can be used to apply to scholarships, sports programs, and all other types of applications.
