Inspiration
The head designer on the team (Kelly) volunteered at a local food bank in her last year of community college. It was shocking to see the disparity in a community thought to be well off, but the experience solidified the importance of advocating and destigmatizing food insecurity
What it does
The app streamlines the food bank search process for individuals who are facing food insecurity. Food banks often have a first come first serve basis to maintain fairness, however everyone has a different standard of necessity. Apple Of My Eye advocates for individuals who don't have mainstream viewed dietary needs by helping filter and narrow food bank search accordingly to their needs. We believe everyone deserves access to food that respects their religious restrictions, nutritional deficiency needs, and dietary lifestyles.
How I built it
The prototype is entirely designed and prototyped on Figma
Challenges I ran into
This is our first ever full length project, we learned a lot!
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
We love the inclusivity for populations that are not typically considered and that this can solve a real life problem that we have witnessed in our community
What I learned
A lot about the structure of figma as well as as far we can go to include different populations as well as how they are not considered in conventional services.
What's next for Apple Of My Eye
We want to present it to the community center that started it all, perhaps receive their real life data for further validation of the problem. We are also open to making a browser /web based compatible design to include populations who do not have access to a smartphone and could use public access computers at libraries instead.
