Inspiration

University life is full of events, announcements, communities, and academic workflows β€” but everything is scattered. Students miss updates, faculty struggle to coordinate, clubs lack digital visibility, and admins manage everything manually.

We wanted a single, smart campus companion that unifies events, communities, discussions, attendance, certificates, and analytics β€” in one clean mobile experience.

AppConnect was born from the idea:

One campus. One app. Complete connection.

What It Does

AppConnect is a multi-role university app that connects Students, Faculty, Club Admins, and Admins with:

πŸŽ‰ Event creation, registration & approvals

πŸ“° Campus feed with posts, images & comments

πŸ’¬ Discussion boards for topics & replies

πŸ“ Resource/document sharing via Cloudflare R2

⭐ Event feedback & rating system

πŸ†” Profile management per role

πŸ“ Attendance tracking & certificate generation

πŸ“Š Admin dashboard with analytics & moderation tools

Everything is designed to be fast, lightweight, and hackathon-friendly, powered by Firebase + Expo.

How We Built It

The project was built using a clean, modular architecture:

React Native (Expo) Expo Router Redux Toolkit + Redux Persist Firebase Auth + Firestore Cloudflare R2 Object Storage Victory Native Charts TypeScript Custom UI Components

We structured the app with feature-based folders, reusable hooks, a shared design system, and role-aware navigation using Expo Router layouts.

Data flows were kept simple and secure:

Authentication β†’ Firebase Auth

User profiles β†’ Firestore

Files & media β†’ Cloudflare R2

Offline capabilities β†’ Firestore caching

UI β†’ Custom components (CView, CText, CInput, etc.)

Challenges We Ran Into ⏱ Three Hours = Extreme Pressure

We had to simplify architecture while keeping scalability intact.

πŸ” Multi-Role Navigation

Creating four separate dashboards (Student, Faculty, Club Admin, Admin) while keeping the router clean required dynamic guards and custom middleware.

☁ Storage Integration

Cloudflare R2 and Firebase Firestore had to work together seamlessly during uploads, previews, and metadata sync.

🎨 UI Consistency

Building a modern interface quickly meant designing reusable custom components for layout, typography, spacing, and shadows.

πŸ“Š Admin Analytics

Generating real-time insights like user counts, event status, and feed activity required optimized queries.

Despite the time pressure, we shipped every major feature end-to-end.

What We Learned

How to build modular, scalable apps quickly with Expo Router.

Structuring multi-role, permission-driven workflows.

Implementing Firestore + R2 hybrid storage flows.

Creating a clean UI system with custom components.

Writing functional slices with Redux Toolkit under strict time limits.

Delivering a real product in a compressed hackathon timeline.
