Inspiration

Originally, I was inspired by two things. Google translate and the former random chatting site Omegle. I was thinking, these apps are great on their own, but what if the functionalities were combined!

What it does

The program AppChat takes user input that is then sent to others who are using the platform. Their message is now translated into whatever language from the selection that the receiver of that message chooses.

How I built it

I first drew up my idea of what I wanted the app to function as. Then I worked with several AI tools; Open AI, Gemini, and used online resources for how to optimally integrate frontend to backend code.

Challenges

I had a lot of technical issues, that being git not integrating properly, downloading the language databases so that the program could translate, and also graphic errors.

What we learned

I learned how the specifics of frontend and backend coding work, how to integrate them, how to use uvicorn and APIS, and brushed up on Html and C++.

What's next for AppChat

Hopefully I can make this a published app that can really connect strangers from around the world, adding more languages, and letting the user choose who they want to connect with. Also, maybe it can be added as an extension for imessage and whatsapp, allowing messages to be translated in other apps, and also have an audio feature for facetiming, etc.
