Inspiration We wanted to create a fun and engaging way to build good habits. Many habit trackers feel boring and rigid, so we decided to add an interactive element—an adorable virtual pet that grows and evolves based on user progress. Inspired by classic virtual pet games, we aimed to make self-improvement feel like a rewarding game rather than a chore.
What it does App Pawgress is a habit-tracking app where users set personal goals and track their progress. As they complete tasks, their virtual pet grows, unlocks new stages, and receives rewards. Missed tasks result in setbacks, encouraging consistency. The app also includes streak tracking, reminders, and customization options for pets.
How we built it We developed the app using:
Frontend: React Native for cross-platform compatibility Backend: Firebase for user authentication and data storage AI Integration: ChatGPT API (optional) for motivational messages UI/UX Design: Figma for intuitive and fun user experience Challenges we ran into Designing an engaging reward system that keeps users motivated Implementing smooth animations for pet evolution Balancing gamification without making habit tracking feel like a game with no real impact Accomplishments that we're proud of Successfully integrating habit tracking with an engaging pet mechanic Creating a sleek and user-friendly UI Ensuring cross-platform compatibility for both iOS and Android What we learned The importance of user psychology in habit-building apps How to integrate gamification elements effectively Technical skills in React Native, Firebase, and API integration What's next for App Pawgress Adding more customization options for pets Introducing social features (habit challenges with friends) AI-driven habit recommendations based on user behavior Expanding pet evolution stages and animations
