Inspiration
We took inspiration from LingoDeer and Duolingo in creating a product that helps encourage users to go the gym consistently through gamifying the process. We based our product off BeReal as well in creating a social media site that lets users share quick "in-the-moment" pictures of themselves.
What it does
It lets people share a picture of themselves every time they go to the gym, with their work out group/friends, in order to encourage each other to continue going to the gym. Sharing a picture every you go to the gym earns progress towards a goal that the group can work together towards, in order to create collaboration and accountability. Reaching the goal each week extends a "streak". This further encourages users to consistently go to the gym every week. Apollo, our mascot, is also responsive (he is sad when the user loses their streak, etc.) to when the user posts a picture, etc. which helps gamify the experience.
How we built it
We used CSS, HTML, Javascript.
Challenges we ran into
A lot of us weren't familiar with Javascript, CSS, HTML and has to quickly learn how to write in these languages on the fly. In addition, we spent a lot of time designing and making concept art.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We really liked our idea and the drawings we made of Apollo (our mascot). Seeing him really encouraged us to go on. We love you Apollo, our child.
What we learned
We learn how to use CSS, HTML, JS, git. We also learned how to learn on the fly, brainstorm and combine ideas together
What's next for Apollo
We want to add in new features that can help further encourage users to go to the gym. For example they can earn prizes from extending their streak or reaching their goal. The app can also give tips and advice and connect you with other groups outside of your own.
