Inspiration
The idea for APIForge Pro was born out of the everyday frustrations developers face during the API development lifecycle. From design to testing, we noticed that developers juggle too many tools — one for design, another for docs, a different one for testing, and the list goes on. This fragmentation kills productivity and creativity.
So we asked: what if there was a single, AI-powered platform that could streamline the whole workflow?
That’s how APIForge Pro started — with the goal to create a unified, intelligent workspace where anyone can design, generate, test, document, and monitor APIs using just plain English. We wanted to give developers their own API copilot.
What it does
APIForge Pro is an AI-powered tool that streamlines the entire API lifecycle:
- Converts natural language into OpenAPI 3.1.0 specs using Gemini
- Spins up a dynamic Express server with mock data
- Provides interactive API testing and documentation (Swagger, PDF, Markdown)
- Includes a visual editor (React Flow) and code editor (Monaco)
- Auto-generates SDKs (TypeScript/JavaScript)
- Offers analytics (Recharts), versioning, and real-time collaboration (Socket.IO)
- Exports APIs to OpenAPI JSON, Postman, and more
How we built it
Frontend: React + TypeScript, styled with Tailwind, built with Vite. Uses Monaco, React Flow, Recharts, and other modern libraries.
Backend: Node.js + Express with dynamic route generation, mock data, real-time features (Socket.IO), and production middleware (helmet, compression, rate limiting).
AI Integration: Gemini is integrated via custom hooks to generate, optimize, and test APIs from natural language.
Challenges we ran into
- Parsing and dynamically serving OpenAPI schemas on the backend
- Ensuring stable real-time collaboration with state sync
- Prompt engineering for accurate AI-generated APIs
- Seamless integration of complex tools like Monaco and React Flow
- Maintaining performance during live collaboration and chart rendering
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Full AI integration for schema generation and testing
- Real-time collaboration and editing
- Dynamic server with mock data support
- Complete API lifecycle coverage in a single platform
- Production-grade backend features
What we learned
- Deep understanding of OpenAPI 3.1.0
- Practical prompt engineering for AI APIs
- Real-time system architecture with Socket.IO
- Scalable React patterns and frontend performance tuning
- Effective data visualization practices
What's next for APIForge Pro
- Add persistent storage (e.g., Supabase)
- Extend AI capabilities for code generation and security analysis
- CI/CD and version control integrations
- User authentication and access control
- API template marketplace and custom documentation support
