Inspiration
The recent overturn of Roe v. Wade will have catastrophic effects. Women are now going to have to travel great distances to seek abortion services which can be unaffordable for many. They may resort to self-managing abortion which can end up being fatal.
What it does
Aphrodite is a mobile app and an SMS bot that offers the following:
- Current legal status of abortion in your area
- Verified abortion facilities near you
- Requesting funding for seeking abortion services
- Donating to users seeking abortion services
How we built it
- React Native
- Google Cloud Serverless Functions
- Twilio
Challenges we ran into
- Obtaining a list of verified abortion clinics was more challenging than we thought. The databases that we found were restricted so we ended up successfully scraping the web to create a list of verified abortion facilities across the US.
