Inspiration
Apex was inspired by our lived experiences with adrenaline and performance under pressure. Avery, a rock climber, learned to transform adrenaline from fear into focus — shaped by watching her father, a motorcycle racer, maintain calm in high-risk environments. Lauren, an equestrian, experienced the opposite challenge: managing overwhelming adrenaline during competition through awareness and control. These shared experiences sparked a central question: what if adrenaline could be seen, understood, and managed in real time?
What it does
Apex makes adrenaline visible in real time, helping users identify rising stress early and regulate their response with guided interventions to maintain focus in high-pressure situations.
How we built it
From a product standpoint, we began by analyzing the challenge framework and defining the problem space. We rapidly ideated in Figma, developed mood boards, mapped system behaviors, and explored feature flows before leveraging Figma Make to prototype quickly. Through continuous iteration and refinement, we evolved Apex into a focused, human-centered solution that transforms invisible physiological signals into meaningful feedback.
Challenges we ran into
Working within a three-day timeline also required fast decision-making, clear communication, and strong prioritization. The main challenge was ensuring our concept aligned with the prompt and defining whether some of our ideas could be considered a human “sense”. Luckily, after revisiting the video brief introducing the prompt, we were able to confidently narrow down our ideas and choose a topic for our app.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We’re proud of creating a focused and cohesive concept under tight time constraints. Apex successfully translates invisible biometric signals into simple, actionable feedback while cohesively maintaining clarity, usability, and strong visual direction.
What we learned
This project strengthened our ability to collaborate under pressure, iterate quickly, and design from both technical and human-centered perspectives. We learned how to translate complex ideas into practical product solutions.
What's next for Apex
We envision a future where real-time adrenaline monitoring extends beyond clinical settings, empowering everyday people to understand and manage their adrenaline responses throughout daily life. With Apex, we aim to make adrenaline awareness accessible, helping users harness insights to improve their wellbeing, focus, and optimize their daily performance.
