Inspiration

As an independent taking part in Hack Apertus the goal was to explore and use Switzerland’s open-source foundation model. We were inspired by the need for tools that can process text reliably and accessibly support languages and keep data private while being fully open.

What it does

ApertusText Studio is a tool for text processing and summarization. It runs on top of the Apertus large language model. It takes long blocks of text understands them and produces clean, short and well-structured summaries right away.

How we built it

The project started from scratch as a solo entry. The focus was on design and real-world usefulness. It connects with the Apertus 8B model to handle understanding text crafting prompts and parsing responses in a way.

Challenges we ran into

Working and under a tight deadline meant balancing simplicity with strong performance. We had to shape the prompts and stick strictly to the core summarization steps—no extra features, no bloat.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Successfully building a clean, lightweight text summarization pipeline powered by the Apertus LLM from scratch within a tight timeframe, keeping the focus entirely on core utility and open-source transparency.

What we learned

We learned a lot about using open-weight models.

We observed how the initiatives like Apertus support induviduals developers in creating applications.

It demostrate the power of AI in giving control back, to creators.

What's next for ApertusText Studio

We plan to expand the summarization capabilities, add support for more multilingual document formats, integrate a user-friendly web interface, and optimize the model pipeline for faster, real-time enterprise text processing.
