Inspiration
Our inspiration was to create a project that could be used for history, as we were AP History students ourselves. In our opinion, the biggest issue with history as a concept is that students could memorize facts but couldn't connect the dots between events and the actions of people in response, and we started our project from there, to help students visualize the actual events happening in history, in a fun and interactive way.
What it does
The project is a pixelated browser-based game that includes features such as cards for studying, interactions with famous historical figures, and other events in history. After each interactive history lesson, the user is given a set of flashcards (which they collect as the game progresses). These flashcards are then in their toolbox, as a resource for them to use and study with.
How we built it
We built this game using HTML, CSS, and Javascript, as well as github and multiple art apps.
Challenges we ran into
Our biggest challenge was managing our time, as we were under a lot of time pressure to get such as large project done in time, but we were able to create a great project in the given time.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of being able to accomplish such a big project in a short amount of time, and that we were able to create an effective interactive game to help teach students!
What we learned
We learned many coding skills, such as HTML, CSS, and Javascript. Skills outside of coding we have learned include how to collaborate well as a team, and how to design characters and backgrounds.
What's next for our Interactive History Trading Card Game
Our vision for Chronicles is to expand it and implement it into History classrooms, so we can help students like us to better visualize and understand history from a first hand perspective. We also want to add more scenes from history, and flashcards based on each additional lesson.
