ANTS - A Movement Against Pollution

##Inspiration ANTS is a project inspired by the many communities in Canada that aren't aware of the effects of pollution concerning them and their family. We decided to move forward on this project in order to bring awareness to the effects of pollution impacting people and starting an initiative within our community motivating people to start working together to create change.

What it does

Our project uses sensors managed by Arduino boards that are spread out in different locations around the GTA, such as lakes and nearby factories. The information from the sensors is pushed to our FireBase database, which is then pulled to our website, then displayed on a JavaScript/HTML integrated HereMap API, sorted by pinned locations on a map. The ChatGPT API analyses the measurements from the Arduino sensors and returns them in understandable responses for the average person.

How we built it

We built the website through the usage of coding languages such as Python, CSS, HTMl and Javascript. The arduino code was created using c++.

Challenges we ran into

Some challenges we ran through were in regards to issues with creating the interactive map, which took a bulk of our time. The code for the arduino was also hard to compile and make sure that it worked as we did not have the arduino present.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are very proud of the website and its interactive features, such as the map. The website and map took a lot of learning and trial and error, which made its completion something we are all very proud of. The arduino code was also something most of our team was not very familiar with, so its completion and persevering through it’s learning curve was also a great accomplishment for us.

What we learned

About half of our team are beginner hackers so this experience allowed us to develop our coding skills as well as work as a team. We learned how to focus our time and different ways to use API’s. This project was a greatly valuable learning experience that will help us with our next hackathon.

What's next for ANTS - A Movement Against Pollution

Next we’d like to fix and improve the firebase and get tangible arduinos to use as they are prototypes. We would also want to increase the amount of aduinos deployed, to expand our project further.
