Bullying hurts our most vulnerable citizens: children and adolescents. Their often-prolonged mistreatment poisons the wellbeing of our communities.
Color as a symbol is a simple metaphor. We color our feelings. We see red when we become angry or when we loose self-control. Blue is the ocean and the sky, a universal calm, the natural state of our “blue planet”.
AntiBullyingColor is a Web and Mobile Phone App that promotes awareness and communication of bullying, and facilitates the emergence of solutions through basic color keys.
AntiBullyingColor lets students communicate, recognize more peaceful and safe environments, modify the balance of support within groups, explore better ways of behavior and carry out open and honest reporting.
There are two possible and independent layers of use. One layer helps youngsters suffering bullying. Another, for adults, lets them understand effective anti-bullying solutions.
Youngsters always remain anonymous, keep control and define whom to Twitter. Both adults and youngsters can read aggregated reports and review the conditions of different schools and neighborhoods.
Students create personal and communal awareness through “My counter” of bullying events. They can improve communication by sharing “My color”, a register of feelings experienced when suffering or witnessing bullying. Write proposals in “My ideas”. Rate and share their community safety through an index or “My School color”. “Report bullying” as victims, or witnesses, via “a panic button” that cries for help, or write one or two forms –urgent or reflective- to provide different lengths of information for mentors to read and help.
Mentor students win points for their “Mentor color” and compete for the “Hall of Fame” every time they testify, raise empathy and cooperativeness, share ideas to help in the solution of the problem, stand up against an act of bullying, talk on behalf of a victim, or help fellow students.
