Inspiration

We saw that other anti-procrastination helpers were stricter in their methods and wanted immediate results so we thought of taking a different and less imposing approach by having a cute companion that would give non-intrusive reminders to ensure you don't lose track of time.

What it does

It serves as an overlay companion giving reminders about remaining tasks while the user is on a website previously monitored

How we built it

Using a mixture of javascript, json, css, and html. We store the data from the checklist in a html file and access it through the overlay for the reminders on other sites.

Challenges we ran into

Attaching and creating the overlay as well as its dialogue boxes. The animating of the tamagotchi and its movement across the screen were also really difficult.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Integrating and making an extension that uses data stored from somewhere else to make a reminder system was something we never even thought was possible for us in this time limit as we had very limited experience to javascript and no experience to google APIs and the level of permissions that come to them.

What we learned

We learned the processes in making extensions in chrome and how different webpages can be interacted with through these extensions.

What's next for Anti-Procrastination pop-up widget

We plan on expanding from being browser based to kernel based so that Bytey can be there with the user since the start-up of their device as well as have a link to directories included in Bytey's messages to where the user can access their tasks if they want to start on them immediately. Additionally, we want to add customizability for users to add their own sprite sheets and make their personal Byteys.
