Inspiration
I've always looked to r/simonfraser for advice on courses, school clubs, and anything SFU related. However, the subreddit is not structured enough for all of the different threads that come out of SFU! We have different courses, different topics, new SFU students asking questions, food recommendations, people trolling.... It's too messy, so I created a structured r/simonfraser, where you can comfortably and anonymously ask questions about courses, find group members, and bond with peers!
What it does
It's an anonymous social media platform where you can join course communities, make posts within these groups, make general posts, and upvote/downvote.
How we built it
Frontend: Next.js, React
Backend: Node.js, Express.js
Database: SQLite
Challenges we ran into
Haven't touched full-stack in a long time, so had to do a lot of refreshing. Also wanted to implement more features!
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Proud of implementing the backend.
What we learned
I learned about time blocking and focusing on certain parts of the project in order to reach my goal. Going into this hackathon with a clear outcome of making a full stack project was helpful in guiding what I needed to do.
What's next for SFU Reddit
Implementing commenting & receiving approval from SFU to use their authentication service.
