Inspiration

The inspiration behind AnnaPradaan stems from the contrasting realities of food waste and hunger. Every day, millions of people struggle with hunger, while an alarming amount of food is discarded as waste. Witnessing this stark imbalance inspired us to create a platform that bridges the gap between those with surplus food and those in need, ensuring that no meal goes to waste.

What it does

AnnaPradaan is a community-driven platform that connects food donors with recipients in need. The app allows donors, such as restaurants, event organizers, and households, to easily share details about surplus food. Recipients, including shelters, orphanages, and individuals, can browse available food posts and request what they need. Volunteers facilitate the pickup and delivery process, ensuring that food is delivered fresh and promptly.

How we built it

We built AnnaPradaan using Flutter for the front-end, ensuring a seamless and intuitive user experience across different devices. The backend is powered by Firebase, providing real-time data synchronization and secure user authentication. We integrated Google’s Generative AI to automatically generate captions for posts, making it easier for donors to describe their offerings. The app also leverages cloud storage for handling images and user data efficiently.

Challenges we ran into

One of the main challenges we faced was ensuring that the platform remained user-friendly while incorporating various features, such as real-time updates and AI-generated content. Managing the logistics of food delivery and coordinating between donors, recipients, and volunteers posed another significant challenge. Additionally, ensuring the security and privacy of user data while maintaining the app's performance required careful consideration and testing.

We're proud to have created a platform that has the potential to make a real impact on reducing food waste and hunger. Successfully integrating AI to enhance user experience and making the app accessible and easy to use for people of all technical backgrounds are significant achievements. The positive feedback from early users and the community has been incredibly rewarding.
