Inspiration

We were inspired by the growing problem of food waste and hunger. Every day, large amounts of edible food are wasted at weddings, hotels, and events, while many people struggle to get a proper meal. We wanted to create a simple solution that connects surplus food with people who need it. This inspired us to build ANNAM, with the mission “Share Food, Spread Hope.”

What it does

ANNAM connects food donors, student volunteers, shelters, and hungry communities. Donors can post surplus food details, including quantity, photos, preparation time, and location. The platform helps match available food with nearby volunteers and recipients for timely delivery. Food safety checks, delivery confirmation, and impact tracking help promote safe and transparent food distribution.

How we built it

We designed ANNAM as a digital food-sharing platform focused on accessibility and ease of use. The proposed workflow includes food listing, location-based matching, volunteer notifications, food freshness checks, delivery coordination, and donation tracking. We also developed a recognizable brand identity using a green-and-orange logo to represent food, sustainability, and hope.

Challenges we ran into

One major challenge was designing a reliable way to connect donors with nearby volunteers and recipients quickly. Ensuring food freshness, coordinating pickups, maintaining transparency, and avoiding delivery delays also required careful planning. We focused on creating a simple workflow that could be expanded to serve more communities.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud to develop ANNAM as a meaningful solution to two important problems: food waste and hunger. Our project encourages student volunteering, supports community participation, and promotes responsible food sharing. We also established a clear five-step process: Alert, Match, Safety Check, Deliver, and Transparency.

What we learned

We learned how technology can address real-world social challenges when combined with community participation. We gained a better understanding of food donation coordination, volunteer management, user-friendly design, sustainability, and the importance of food safety and transparency.

What's next for ANNAM

Our next goal is to pilot ANNAM in a local community by partnering with marriage halls, hotels, charities, and student volunteers. We plan to improve location-based matching, introduce multilingual support, optimize delivery routes, and explore AI-powered food demand prediction. In the long term, we aim to expand ANNAM across towns and cities, helping more people access meals while reducing avoidable food waste.
