Inspiration
Our inspiration stems from the core concept of "great courage in small things," aiming to tell a story of the confrontation between light and darkness featuring a delicate little girl as the protagonist—seemingly ordinary, yet actually the guardian of the valley. In terms of style, we deeply draw on the "nature and magic" fusion elements from Japanese fantasy works such as Princess Mononoke and The Legend of Zelda, striving to create a fantasy world that combines extreme beauty with latent danger, where the tranquility of nature and the mystery of magic intertwine, laying a unique atmospheric foundation for the story.
What it does
This is an animated short film with the core narrative of "Guardian Girl vs. Dark Invader". The story revolves around the little girl, the guardian of the valley, who waters the magical flower that sustains the valley's vitality on a daily basis, but unexpectedly encounters an attack from the shadow monster, a dark invader. From the initial surprise to the determined counterattack, the little girl, relying on her own courage and the belief in protecting the valley, experiences the probing and crisis of the first confrontation, and finally completes the purification of the dark forces, safeguarding her home. Through this journey, the film conveys the core theme of "a small body can also carry great courage".
How we built it
Adopt a four-phase closed-loop workflow to ensure the project progresses in an orderly manner and achieves the expected results:
Video Storyboard Creation: Centering around the core theme of "Guardian Girl vs. Dark Invader", conceive a complete storyline, break it down into key scenes such as "the girl watering the magic flower - the shadow monster appears - the first confrontation gets into trouble - gathering strength to finally purify", clarify the narrative goal and emotional tone of each scene, and provide a clear framework for subsequent creation.
AI Content Generation: Utilize AI video and image generation tools to conduct multiple rounds of "card draws" and iterative optimization for each key scene. This stage focuses on the stylistic consistency of character images (little girl and shadow monster), action postures, and scene backgrounds. Through repeated parameter and prompt adjustments, creative segments that basically meet the narrative requirements are selected.
Post-production editing and integration: Import all AI-generated creatives into the "Jianying" editing software, and complete the segment reorganization and fine editing according to the logical sequence of the video storyboard. During the process, pay attention to controlling the narrative rhythm, and ensure that the story progresses smoothly and naturally and the emotional transitions are coherent through methods such as adjusting shot duration and designing transitions.
Sound Effects and Music Enhancement: To enhance the emotional impact and immersion of the film, background music that matches the scene atmosphere has been specially selected, environmental sounds such as wind and stream sounds have been added to restore the natural texture, and key voice lines like "Stay away from it!" have been incorporated, allowing auditory elements to complement visual images and strengthen the story's appeal.
Challenges we ran into
The core challenge in project advancement lies in balancing "the uncontrollability of AI" and "clear creative intent", which is specifically manifested in three key dimensions:
The challenge of consistency in characters and scenes.
Insufficient accuracy in emotional expression: Presenting the subtle expressions of characters is a difficult point in AI generation. For example, the determined look of the little girl at 0:39 requires a large amount of time for iteration by repeatedly adjusting the emotional description of the prompt, facial detail parameters, etc., to achieve the expected effect.
Poor stability of the villain's form: The "multi-tentacle" form of the shadow monster (at 1:06) frequently encountered issues such as structural collapse and form chaos during the generation process. How to maintain its sense of threat while ensuring the consistency of the form across different shots became the most energy-consuming challenge during this stage.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Achieving AI-driven complete narrative: Successfully completed an animated short film with a clear narrative line and emotional arc relying on AI tools, breaking the limitation that AI-generated content is prone to fragmentation, and making the story both logical and appealing.
What we learned
- Atmosphere Creation in Visual Narrative: Learn to drive the story forward through the design of shot language, such as transitioning from a soothing shot of a tranquil stream to an oppressive shot of a dark mountain, using the contrast in images to quickly build the scene atmosphere and intensify the tension of the plot.
Control of Character Consistency in AI Generation: A set of practical techniques has been summarized to maintain the stable image of the protagonist (little girl) and the unified form of the antagonist (shadow monster) during the AI generation process, thus solving the common problems of "face-changing" and "shape-shifting" of characters in AI creation.
Precise Generation of AI Special Effects: Mastered the method of precisely controlling complex special effects through optimized prompts, capable of efficiently generating visual elements required for battle scenes such as energy shields, beam of light attacks, and multi-form transformations of monsters, thereby enhancing the practical value of AI creatives.

Promotion and Exhibition of Works: Submit short films to various independent animation film festivals and online creation platforms to expand the exposure scope of the works and collect feedback from professional audiences and creators.
