Inspiration

Climate change, deforestation. It is important to be able to track animals. This provides them with another layer of security and helps us see when there's something wrong. A change in migration patterns or sudden movements can indicate illegal activity.

What it does

It is able to track movement and animals efficiently through a forest. These nodes can be placed at different points to track the movement of different species

How we built it

works with 2 esp8266's. They are attached to a PIR motion sensor. When activated it sends location data to the database. It is then retrieved and plotted onto google maps.

Challenges we ran into

Many issues were encountered during this project. Mainly firebase, and the esp32 cam. We were having extreme difficulties pulling the right data at the right time from the firebase database. The esp32 was also causing many issues. It was hard to set up and was hard to program. Due to this, we could no longer implement the object detection model and were forced to use only an esp8266 and no camera.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

This was our first time using Firebase, and we figured it out

What we learned

Firebase, IoT things gmaps api

What's next for Animal Tracker

Integrate esp32cam and image classification model. Add more features to the site.
