Inspiration

A fun game that the whole family can play. My daughters love animals, hence the animal theme.

What it does

It asks a series of easy questions, the answers of which are mapped against certain animal feature and traits to determine a theoretical "kindred animal spirt" - i.e. the animal that you're most alike.

How I built it

Alexa developer interface + Calls a Lambda function using node.js and ASK + Which then calls ruby on rails API to match the answers against animal features.

Challenges I ran into

I'm fairly new to using node.js and lambda - hence the reason why I wrote my animal management interface in ruby on rails. It was interesting, and fairly straightforward to call the rails API from the lambda function.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

It actually works quite well. My kids love it!

What I learned

What's next for Animal Spirit

Lot's of enhancements planned, including adding more animals and animal features, animal descriptions for larger displays, expand out into different types of answers (not just yes/no), and translation into other languages.
