Inspiration
This Lens was inspired by many years of gaming, the collecting of the animals reminds me of the sequence at the end of each Sonic level. Experimenting with the latest physics and collision detection capabilities in Lens Studio inspired us to try things no one has done before in AR.
What it does
This is a Gamified World Facing Lens using physics simulation, collision detection and a remote controlled alien to save as many animals as possible before the timer runs out!
How we built it
Using Lens Studio physics simulation and collision detection assets. The 3D models were bought on Sketchfab and we used some Lens Studio Assets for the buildings. The timer script was created by @apocsnap in a dope tutorial from 2018. I actually dusted off my coding skills to create the Animal Counter script that counts the instanced Animals that go into the UFO!
Challenges we ran into
Deciding what the final game experience was going to be, it started out with a turtle shell that you used to hit eggs into a portal...Trying to create a counting system for other objects that would trigger events. Filling in all the DevPost stuff. haha
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Getting the camera setup to work correctly so the alien stays on the same plane as the other objects. Writing the script to count the instanced Animals and display that in Lens was a big accomplishment when I finally got it working.
What we learned
How to set up remote controlled objects on the same plane as collision objects. How to instantiate 3d objs. How to count instanced objects via collision detection and Snaps API.
What's next for Animal Rescue
Would like to turn this into a 2 player connected Lens experience. Local or Remote. Would also like to create a persistent Leaderboard for high scores. Definitely will be creating more Gamified Lens Experiences.
