Inspiration

Our inspiration was the need for people to go outside. Many people stay inside and play games, however we thought that we can make a game that people play outside! This would help the environment by encouraging more people to spend time outside and positively interact with their environment.

What it does

The app is similar to Pokemon GO; you take pictures of animals you see to add them into your inventory. Each animal has different stats so you should go outside and find more animals! There is also a battle system so you can battle against other animals using the animals that you have found throughout your adventures.

How we built it

We built it with flask for the api and backend, and android for the front end.

Challenges we ran into

We ran into challenges of the AI not properly detecting the animals and not generating accurate stats. We also ran into challenges of our apis not running and our frontend not interacting correctly with the database.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud of the image detection system and the stat generating system as they were very difficult to properly implement with our api.

What we learned

We learned how to properly use flask apis in order to interact with our frontend. We also learned about image detection and how to navigate the edge case scenarios.

What's next for Animal Catch

We want to improve on the battle system to make it multiplayer and also have more dynamic stats for the animals such as weight.
