Inspiration

We wanted to create a relaxing yet competitive game where players explore nature, discover animals, and build their own collection, similar to Pokémon Go but set in a stylized forest world.

What it does

Players roam the map to find, catch, and collect animals of different rarities. Each capture earns points, helps complete collections, and unlocks pets that follow and assist the player.

How we built it

We built the world in the Desktop Editor by Meta Horizon Worlds, designed the models and UI in Blender, Figma and META GenAI, added interactive systems for alerts, pets, and leaderboards to make the forest feel alive.

Challenges we ran into

Balancing exploration with difficulty was tricky. We also faced performance issues with the amount of animals available for players because we needed to optimize how animals spawned dynamically.

Accomplishments that we’re proud of

We created a full ecosystem where exploration feels rewarding, added smooth animations and alerts, and made a multiplayer-ready environment that keeps players engaged.

What we learned

We learned how to design open environments efficiently, integrate collection mechanics that motivate players, and use visual feedback to improve engagement.

What’s next for Animal Catch

We plan to add seasonal animals, player trading, and mobile/VR crossplay so players can keep expanding their collections anywhere.
