Inspiration

Blockchain-based ESG activity data system. AngryWhales.

Climate crisis, waste, ocean pollution issues. The Earth we inhabit is facing environmental challenges. And each year, the movement to protect the environment is growing.

I'm participating and operating in a plogging campaign with my crew in Korea. Initially, it started on a small scale, but now, we have 100 participants in each session. https://www.youtube.com/@AngryWhale

They are ‘good people’. They engage in this activity not for personal gain but with a shared purpose for the greater good.

What it does

"AngryWhales" measures people's plogging campaign participation records and permanently records them in the form of NFTs on the blockchain.

How we built it

This is the structure of the 'AngryWhales' system. The system consists of SaaS and an App. We developed the front end using 'flutter' and the server using 'node.js'. And the blockchain system supports multichain using Chainlink’s CCIP.

Flow

  1. When businesses and government entities register campaigns on the web-based SaaS system, participants engage.
  2. Campaigns can take the form of offline or online events.
  3. Participants can record their activity history through the web or the app.
  4. Upon reaching specific milestones, participants can mint badges in the form of NFTs.

Challenges we ran into

Business

Businesses and government entities can easily create campaigns through the web-based SaaS. And the data can be used in sustainability reports to increase the company's value.

User

In the future, a blockchain and API system can be established to provide purchase discounts and carbon points for environmental products.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Our team was disappointed that what applicants gained from campaign activities was limited in a good sense. We hoped for activities to have a lasting impact and translate into tangible benefits. It was great to create a demo service through this hackathon.

What we learned

  1. There should be more examples of environmental groups, companies, and governments using the 'AngryWhales' system.
  2. Business model development is necessary for system operation.

What's next for AngryWhales

  1. Sales targeting companies and government agencies are necessary.
  2. A business model must be created through a testing campaign.
