Inspiration

My inspiration comes from the mural The Churning of the Ocean of Milk at Angkor Wat. I wanted to explore the story behind it. After much research, I realized the origin of Angkor Wat remains a mystery. This led me to imagine a tale in which the temple was born from the gods’ united effort in churning the cosmic ocean, with Mount Mandara transforming into Angkor Wat.

What it does

The biggest lesson from this short film was learning to integrate multiple complex elements into a seamless whole. Each frame contained many details—characters, lighting, and environments. I learned to first create characters and scenes individually with AI, then integrate them, ensuring that in the final video each element—people, light, and setting—moved in harmony.

How we built it

I began by working with GPT to design the storyboard, refining details along the way. Then I used Sora and JimengAI to define characters, key scenes, and storyboards, followed by MidJourney for visual integration, and finally HailuoAI to produce the video sequences.

Challenges we ran into

The greatest challenge was how to present the vast and abstract theme—“Angkor Wat born from the Churning of the Ocean of Milk”—in a simple and clear narrative. It also required careful camerawork to show character relationships and the passage of time. In particular, the sequence of the serpent Naga coiling around Mount Mandara took many trials and refinements.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I successfully transformed the myth of The Churning of the Ocean of Milk into a cinematic narrative, reimagining the mysterious origins of Angkor Wat.What I am most proud of is seamlessly blending complex visual elements—the gods, the naga serpent, Mount Mandara, and Angkor Wat—while maintaining strong cinematic coherence.

What we learned

I learned how to maintain clarity within a grand and mysterious mythological theme—telling a cosmic story through precise camera movements and dynamic design.

What's next for Angkor Wat: The Churning of the Ocean of Milk

My next step is to expand this short film into a more complete narrative, exploring the symbolic meanings behind each deity, asura, and mythological element. Finally, I aim to bring this project to international film festivals and digital art exhibitions, allowing global audiences to experience the rebirth of Angkor Wat’s mythology through AI-driven cinematic storytelling.
