Inspiration

I was given a string of lights and I felt bad about not using them.

What it does

Fits on the user’s back. Once connected to an external power source, lights all over the frame turn on and flash in different patterns.

How we built it

Selected a few pieces of scrap wood to begin development. Cut each to size with table saw and handheld saw. Using a drill, made pilot holes and screwed each piece together. Unrolled the chain of lights, and wrapped it around the majority of the frame. Knotted some rope to form straps upon which the contraption can be secured upon one’s back.

Challenges we ran into

There was not enough scrap wood at the Hive so I went scavenging around the Invention Studio. Didn’t realize that the lights could be unrolled, so halfway through building I had to strip all the lights down then rewrap them around the frame.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Built a working, relatively light, sturdy frame that can easily be extended with new features.

What we learned

Bigger pilot holes usually don’t hurt. Read about products carefully before mounting devices so they don’t have to be redone later.

What's next for Angel Wings

Feathers. Gotta strip some chickens. Paint. Gotta cover up the not matching colors of the wood. Varnish. Gotta keep the wood from rotting.
