Inspiration
Imagine having the time of your life in a club and suddenly you start getting an eerie vibe from a person, what would you do in such a situation? Today in the society, there are so many situations in which one feels the need to escape or reach out for help! It is very difficult to call for help without alarming the people around and getting into more trouble. Inspired by the concept of 'Angel Shot', that mysterious drink which is not at all booze but is ordered by a person who feel threatened in a club setting and wants to reach out for help. It is a coded order that women can say to bartenders or waiters at bars to signal they need assistance. The different varieties of angel shots could result in having an employee escort you to your car, calling an Uber for you, or in extreme cases calling the police for you.
What it does
After registration, all you have to do is scan the QR Code provided by the club and four options: message, call, location, emergency. You can message or call or message the attendant by the club to tell them your situation. In case of situations where you can't speak, all you have to do is press location and your location will be directed to the attendant. Emergency button is for cases where police is required.
How we built it
I built it using the Android Studio, auth services and notification services in android.
Challenges I ran into
I am not very familiar with flutter and android studio but wanted to make this project on it. It took me a while to understand how to work on it. For some reason, I wasn't able to launch emulator through the android studio and thus I spent a lot of time to solve that issue. In the end, I still couldn't solve it and used my phone as an emulator. Creating a project alone also takes a hell lot of time, I think I could have managed my time better. The entire process was a learning experience for us and oftentimes led to frustration.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
This is my first hackathon and also I am participating solo. I am happy I could make a submission before the deadline.
What I learned
I learned how to use flutter and android studio. But aside from how to code, I learned through my research of the problem that sexual harassment and assault occurs more frequently than any of us could’ve guessed.
What's next for Angel Shot
This app is frontend only as of now due to shortage of time. I will use firebase for backend to store information. Also I want to add a map feature to the app so that the victim could see and make a plan with the club attendant from where to exit safely.
