Inspiration

Mother-to-child transmission is a major route of Hepatitis B and C transmission particularly in high prevalence settings.

What it does

Integrating Hepatitis B and C services into routine antenatal care can help prevent mother-to-child transmission by identifying pregnant women with Hepatitis B or C, providing care and support to women living with Hepatitis B or C, providing antiviral treatment to prevent MTCT and vaccinating infants against Hep B at birth.

How we built it

We used AI to develop the details of the app idea. Due to issues like low or frequent power outages in Sokoto state we used a low end smartphone with 2-4GB of RAM running Android Go Edition instead of high end computing devices (e.g laptops/desktop, tablets etc) which is not feasible as charging can be an issue.

Challenges we ran into

  1. Frequent power outages, which delayed my work as we can go up to two days without power supply or just an hour in a day
  2. Lack of support from people around as digital literacy is low ## Accomplishments that we're proud of I am proud of the idea I was able to come up with despite the fact that I worked alone with no support ## What we learned I learned a lot of things like access to specialized knowledge using AI as low resource settings often lack a sufficient number of specialized researchers or experts in various fields. ## What's next for ANC HepCare Connect I am hoping that the idea of ANC HepCare Connect can be brought to life and used for the purpose on which it was built.
