🌾 Anapurna App – Nourishing the Future

🌟 Inspiration

In a world where millions still go hungry every day, we were inspired to create Anapurna, an app that bridges the gap between food donors and recipients. The inspiration came from observing food waste at events and restaurants, while many in our communities still struggle for daily meals. We wanted to build a solution that not only reduces food waste but also connects surplus food to those who need it most—quickly, efficiently, and respectfully.

🧠 What We Learned

Building Anapurna was an incredible learning journey. We explored:

• User-centered design for both donors and NGOs
  
• Geolocation services to map nearby food donations
  
• Authentication systems to maintain trust and security
  
• Social responsibility through tech, reinforcing that innovation can directly impact lives

We also learned how important UX is when dealing with sensitive actions like food donation and collection.

🛠️ How We Built It

We used the Flutter framework for cross-platform mobile development, ensuring the app works smoothly on both Android and iOS. The backend was powered by Firebase Firestore, offering real-time data sync between donors and collectors. Here's a breakdown of the tech stack:

• Frontend: Flutter, Dart
  
• Other Tools: Google Maps API (for location tracking), Firebase Cloud Messaging (for real-time notifications)

Key features include:

• 🥘 Post a Donation: Donors can quickly list surplus food
  
• 📍 Nearby Alerts: NGOs get notified of nearby food availability
  
• 🔄 Track & Manage: Real-time status updates from pickup to delivery
  
• ✅ Verification System: Built-in QR code scan for secure handovers

🚧 Challenges We Faced

Every impactful project comes with hurdles:

• Logistics Handling: Factoring in perishable nature of food, we optimized for speed and urgency with notification and mapping services
  
• UI Design Balance: Creating an intuitive, respectful interface for both donors and recipients took several iterations

By the end of this project, we didn’t just build an app—we crafted a platform for empathy and action. Anapurna is our step toward a more equitable and sustainable world, where no meal goes to waste and no one goes hungry.
