What it does
Foxy is an educational top-down, 2d, pixel-art game with the goal of educating children and young teens about a variety of topics. In our prototype, we created 5 example levels that explore introductory computer science topics such as boolean statements, if/else/else if statements, and and/or operators. This is accomplished by pushing certain boxes around in order to turn on a lightbulb. While we only created computer science topics in our prototype, this game format could easily be expanded to any number of subjects. For example, chemistry in which the boxes are chemicals, and combining them makes a reaction.
How we built it
We worked primarily through Unity which uses mostly C#, as well as virtual basic. We used Plastic SCM with Unity Teams in order to work on the project as a group and push/pull etc. Art was done through an application called Piskel.
Challenges we ran into
Setting up Unity teams is an absolute nightmare. We spent the vast majority of our first night simply figuring out how to all be working on the same project. Creating animations and implementing them in the proper files so that they are used at the proper time. Unity's animator is dense. Keeping up with creating the assets we needed as soon as we needed them (none of us are artists) UI is difficult to make cohesive especially with a pixel game.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
An educational experience that we all would enjoy if we were younger (the goal). A cohesive thing that actually plays and functions like a game with a menu, goal, levels, animated character etc. The art/UI from scratch because we went in with virtually no experience. The tile collision system we created.

What's next for Anansi Annihilators
Perfecting this project? Moving onto another? Hackathon year 2? World domination? The world will have to wait and see...
