Inspiration

We noticed there might be a correlation between flight travel during the pandemic of COVID-19. We wanted to apply our data science knowledge to find the correlation using various visualizations and statistical analysis.

What it does

Our visuals show the trends of Pneumonia, Influenza, and COVID (PIC) deaths over 2020-21 as well as the trends in flight travel in HHS regions.

How we built it

We used Excel, Tableau, and Python to clean and generate visuals and statistical calculations about the data. We also used an outside data source for the information of flight travel in each region.

Challenges we ran into

We do not have the most coding experience so we ran into challenges when cleaning and interpreting the data.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We were able to create the visualizations that represent our research question and perform a linear regression to calculate the correlation.

What we learned

We learned more about data cleaning and the challenges associated with it. There are many considerations that go into making data readable and digestible for different audiences.

What's next for Analyzing Death Counts for Flu, Pneumonia & COVID

We hope with our increased knowledge for data science we can apply this to more challenges and future work!
