Inspiration
We were inspired by the regularity and normalization of harmful greenhouse gas emissions from every day vehicles.
What it does
Given make and model of the user's car, checks our data and outputs the corresponding carbon emission.
How we built it
We started by establishing a normal class that pulls from our 2D arrays and then coded a pop-up UI that can be clicked for drop downs that give the corresponding emissions once clicked on.
Challenges we ran into
Integrating a good looking UI, luckily, one of our group members was versed in that, which allowed us to pull ideas from past projects to code our current one.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
The UI is fantastic and regardless of our data, which is just test data for now, it functions really well, looking very clean, working properly, and displays the overall message of our project on command.
What we learned
We learned a ton about working collaboratively and especially how to work using our own brains. It's incredibly temptin to use the new age tools of AI to "vibe code" but it really takes away from the real reason we are learning about CS. We did it all by hand and we are extremely proud.
What's next for Analyzing Carbon Emissions of Cars
If we had more time, we could not only clean up the test data and put in real data, but we could develop the UI more to include more cars, more options relating to sustainability, and maybe take a closer look at cars that seem to emit less CO2 but provide other issues or problems like electric vhicles.
