Athletes in every level of soccer in the US generate a plethora of data points each time they participate in a practice or game. Connecting this data collected by scouts, Opta, wearables, coaching/medical staffs, and trainers allows us to build a scouting infrastructure that 1. Is able to fully capture every aspect of a player and 2. Follow this player throughout the life-cycle of their career. In this project, we will provide a framework for scouting using a node based system to represent each player.
In our eyes, there are 4 major criteria for building the player node: Tactical, Technical, and Psychological. These 4 criteria represent a complete view of a player and overlooking any 1 criteria . However, the current streams of data are almost completely dependent on what a scout sees. Our proposal is to combine different pieces of data to influence the grading of each criteria to develop the view of the player.
For this proof of concept, we will be treating the FIFA player ratings as our scouting data, to show how the model would handle possible scout metrics. We have separated the variables into 4 categories based on a coactive model of what is necessary for successful athlete. Some variables are present in multiple categories, reflecting the multi-faceted requirements of the skill. After separation of variables, we will use a clustering mechanism for analyzing each category to create a combined analytical and scout grade.
