Inspiration
Throughout the pandemic, social media usage has increased. In 2020, everyone wasn't able to meet up with each other, making more people rely on online platforms to communicate. As of 2021, social media usage surged than it did in 2020. So I wanted to make people more aware of the negative impacts of social media usage, hoping to decrease people's time spent on social media.
What it does
My website, Social Media Awareness cautions people to lower their social media usage. It informs people about some side effects of social media that people might not identify as the cause of social media, like lowered self-esteem. My website helps people live a happy, healthy life. It gives tips on how to improve not only mental health, but social, and physical health as well. All these health components are interlinked to one another, so all are necessary to lead a happy and balanced life.
How I built it
I built my website using a platform called Visual Studio Code and then I uploaded it to GitHub. The languages used were HTML and CSS. The CSS was embedded inside the HTML.
Challenges I ran into
This is my first hackathon, and I am a beginner of HTML and CSS. So I had moments where I was confused on how to program certain things like buttons for the page. However, I was able to spend time experimenting different ways of using HTML and better familiarize myself with it. Another struggle was the time constraint, as finish some school assignments, take meals, and take personal breaks for myself. So I wasn't able to spend as much time as I wanted to on this project.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
I'm proud with how this project turned out, as this was my first time creating my own website. Even though I wasn't able to spend the time I wanted to on the project, I am still proud of creating this project, as there was a lot to complete.
What I learned
I was able to better familiarize myself with adding colors to the website.
What's next for Social Media Awareness
If I decide to continue updating this website, I will continue to add more tips. I would also be able to have victims of cyberbullying give advice to other people.
