Collectively, we all were the familiar with the struggle of public speaking at school, and in job interviews. Through research, the struggles that women* in male-dominated industries faced also helped us realize the need for our application.
What it does
Amplify is a personal speech coach aimed to help women* combat their barriers to public speaking in both professional settings and everyday communication. It aims to reduce anxiety and empower women to speak up in their everyday communication. Its key features include the ability to practice speaking in front of an imaginary "crowd", and the ability to viewing a record of your most common filler words and how often they are used, as well as how much you practice your public speaking.
How we built it
The application's user interface was designed in Figma. It was built primarily in React, but we also used Node.js, SQL, Expo, and Google Cloud.
Challenges we ran into
As we are not full stack developers, merging the front and back end was extremely difficult. Additionally, as we were all still learning React, we had challenges with the technology.
Accomplishments that we are proud of
We are proud that we were able to get this far in creating a mobile app using React. We also have a functioning database and a working google cloud speech to text api.
What we learned
We learned a lot about React and React Native.
What's next for Amplify
There are a lot of future opportunities for Amplify. The most visible one would be incorporate AI and Machine Learning in order to register tonality and other subtle characteristics of someone's speech.
